walmart excepts fish returns within 90 days and have recipt. If not, try craigslist, a friend, or another local petstore.

You would need something bigger than a gallon, probably bigger than 5 gallons even, to have tankmates for your betta.

I would leave him by himself. Bettas are solitary fish and do fine on their own.

agreed ^ . He wont be lonely. Give him lots of plants and a cave of some sort,he will be one happy fishy! Oh and heat of course. Unless your house/room is warm. :)

I don't know. You could probably have a shrimp or two in the 1 gallon. I have 2 shrimp and a betta in my 2 gallons. Surimi actually seems to love his shrimp. He watches them and chases them! just makes sure not to get to close. He seems happier with the shrimp. I would love to add something else to surimi (in the 5 gallon), but im holding off till i can get him in a bigger tank

I would change the water in a gallon bowl twice a week. Some of us here keep bettas in critter keepers. I have one that is a gallon and a half and others have4 or 5 gallon sized ones. You could get one of those, put a heater in and, like Emmnemms said, a couple of shrimp. And there would be room for a plant or two and maybe a cave or some kind of decoration. Just some ideas for you. :)
