Unhappy Please help me! Im scared

came home from work tonight and turned on my lights to my bedroom. then i opened the tank and startled my betta. his pupils seemed to be small and he wasn't swimming much which made me worried but he ate. changed some of his water immedietly. he is swimming around more now and his eyes look better. could it be possible i startled him with the sudden light and jolt? very nervous, just got this guy!

Can you fill this out please?

Housing
What size is your tank?
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
How often do you feed your betta fish?

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change?
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?

It sounds like you just startled him and he will be fine... Just want to rule other things out.

Yes that is very possible and I am sure that is what happened, at least I know my Betta does that , he will have a couple of rest periods during the day and then he likes to go to sleep at night around 11pm and doesnt really like to be active till around 8am or 9am in the morning. I am sure you only startled him by turning on the light. I agree with Matt though if your concerned about him do fill out the form.

If the fish was in a dark room and the lights were turned on then that's probably why he acted weird. Mine used to do that all the time.

Hey i am glad your betta ding better:) 3 gall is good size of the tank for betta . but if you don't have the filter it better to do 2-50% and one full water changes a week to keep your betta healthy:) And especially when water very worm (81*) which is still acceptable for betta , but there is more chance to get infection in the warmer water, so it really better to do more water changes.
Ooops didn't see your post, we put it at the same time.

its been so hot here! his tank is at 81 still but i think it is only that high because i just changed the water. still worried about him. went to pets unlimited the day i got him hoping that they would have a filter to fit my tank and they had none in stock (of course). they said to come back on tuesday as they may have some in stock by then. will do the 2- 50% water changes as you said!
