Do Cory Cats play?

I was just sitting here on the phone, watching the sororities aquarium. An albino cory was swimming up and down, up and down, each time breaking the surface of the water.

Then all of a sudden the little cory leaped right out of the aquarium!

Cories actually breathe air in additon to the oxygen in water, so that was probably the behavior you described. However, i have never heard of cories leaping from aquariums....do you have a hood?

Yeah they do that sometimes. Mine splash a little at the surface and it startles me every time.

My friend's like to ride up and down the stream of bubbles from her airstone. So I would say that they do play :)

I have a lid for the aquarium, but it wasn't on it. It is now!! The water level is usually two inches below the rim, but I had just put in some fresh water and filled it a little fuller than normal.

Oh well, I'm just glad I happened to see it.

As long as he's okay, it's fine. Just always make sure to keep the cover on unless you're prepared to catch any jumpers. I never leave my tanks uncovered for more than a few seconds. One of my girls likes to jump, though she hasn't jumped out yet. She just gets really excited to see me.

Mine have never done that! I see them playing "hide and seek" in their log all the time, though XD

Cories are loads of fun to watch. I bet he cleared the aquarium wall by at least 2 inches before he fell to the floor.
