Artificial light

Is it ok to leave the artificial light on for the beta all night when I turned it on this morning he seemed scared to death should I just leave it on 24/7
to keep it constant and no shock to him?

Fish need the day night cycle like we do so I would turn it off at night.

I find most fish will startle when going from lots of light to total darkness , the same holds true vise versa...

At night before I turn everyones lights of I make sure my main room lights are on first, so as to not plunge them in total darkness,,, give them a few mins to adjust , then turn the main lights down.. I also keep a night light going in my livingroom and kitchen,

In the mornings if its still fairly dark I turn my main light on for a few mins before I turn any tanks on....
think of someone turning a bright light on you when its dark,,, kinda hurts and startles you :)
