Anyone ever tried the dry planting method?

I don't know if you can do this with shipped plants but I read in "Ecology of the Planted Aquarium" that you can take aquatic plants and and plant them in the tank just like you'd plant them in a pot. You keep the soil moist let the roots develop for a couple of months then add the water to the tank. The says if you're not in a hurry you can get good results this way. I assume you'd have to do it with plants like they sell at Petsmart where the plants are used to being in terrarium like environment.

you can do it with any plant that has an emmersed form, vals, dwarf sags, anacharis... dont have one)
but most other aquatic plants do. if grown submersed it may take a while for them to adjust, some will melt, but that is completely normal. lay submersed grown stem plants flat on the substrate when planting
Make sure to keep the humidity up by covering the top of the tank with saran wrap. such setup can be brought outside in a shady area if the weather is warm enough. Otherwise they will need decent 6500k lighting for some good growth to start showing. aerate daily by lifting saran wrap off a small corner and allowing air in. you can leave it like this over night....
when the plants have filled in/ grown to your liking... fill!

This is actually my favorite method for attaching moss to driftwood ^_^
