Should I beef up my baffle?

I switched from the standard pop bottle baffle to sponges due to concern about sharp edges. Since I made the change, boyfish has been swimming near the surface more, though it looks like there's a pretty strong downward current thanks to the sponge not fitting directly against the outflow.

Here's a video showing the current setup and the signs of the water's flow in the plants and on the surface.

Any thoughts? Boyfish avoids swimming directly under the outflow now, and the one time he did go under it, he was pushed down a good inch by the water current.

I've had my flow that strong before, for brief periods, after cleaning sponges and gotta say my guy did not appreciate it. Couldn't quite tell from your video but I assume you have a HOB filter? You could try cutting a piece of plastic needlepoint canvas to fit over end of waterfall; tape in place onto filter box with electrical tape. This really dissipates the water flow while still allowing full filtration.
Canvas is cut like a small rectangle and taped on outside edges; don't allow tape to come into contact with water.

I would say if you can baffle it more, do it. The betta is naturally used to and built for very calm waters.
