Need some tankmates for a bored tail biter

I have a betta that gets bored really easily, and he is in a 4.5g cycled tank that is currently getting redone. It has sand substrate, tons of silk plants, and soon some various mosses and grasses. It will be heavily planted and decorated when finished. The temp is usaully around 78 degrees, and my betta needs some tankmates. I don't wanna get any ADF cuz alfred is really greedy and he will prly kill himself eating all of their food, and they will starve. (I have heard of this happening alot, so I don't wanna take chances) Alfred prly won't do too well with anything bright such as neons (plus they need a larger tank) Shrimp he might eat, I could give it a try..... Thanks for any help! Oh, and I can't upgrade to a larger tank right now, but maybe later down the road

ghost shrimp, my betta ate a neon so hes mean but he left the ghost shrimp alone, plus their only $0.40 so its ok if it dies

I've got otos with one of my bettas, the other has pygmy cories as tankmates. Both bettas "enjoy" their tankmates and don't bother them. The ghost shrimp(s) is also a good idea!

The ghost shrimp also make a nice snack for your betta. lol

DQ, lol! I like the otto or pygmy cory idea.... I am just scared Alfred will eat the shrimp, but I'll try with one.

implying the value of an animal determines its right to live. If the betta kills everything you put in the tank, maybe it wants its own place; you have a small tank, the only creature that would coexist with a betta without it turning into a cage-match is a snail.
