Unhappy I feel so guilty

I was at PetSmart and one of the bettas has a slightly deformed back. Some employees found out about it. I'm upset they are gonna probably flush him, since he probably won't make any money for them. So I wanted to get him, and I probably would've gotten him for a discount because of his back, but according to my mom, I have enough fish already. Two fish isn't enough. Haven't I had three before? But anyways, now that fish is probably going to die and I can't help. I feel so bad.

It's hard but unfortunately we just can't save every abused fish :( Try spending some time with the two you have and remind yourself that you're giving them an awesome life they most likely wouldn't have had without you :)

It's pretty much like ForbiddenSecrets said, we can't save them all, but we can appreciate the lives we've already saved or adopted into our lives.

I don't know about your experiences with Petsmart, but at my local store, they treat the bettas, they do not simply kill them. Just yesterday I was there to pick up a heater (and a new fish) and I saw a betta with a fungal infection on his body. I showed an employee and he was taken to the back to be treated. Considering how cheaply they get their supplies, I think it's worth it to them to try and treat the fish and be able to sell it rather than taking a guaranteed loss with euthanasia.

Yeah, we don't "flush" living fish down the toilet... :/

Deformed fish are free for adoption at my store. If you were to go back and ask for it, be sure to point out that it is deformed.

Thanks, everyone. Briz, at the pet store I normally go to, the fish aren't as lucky. Even if I were to go back for it, I don't think it'd be there.

We'll if they flush him they are violating PetSmart policy. In fact, they are violation part of their employment contract. I doubt they flushed it, but if you have reasonable suspicion that they did, contact the corporate headquarters.
