We Is the new

Hey Y'all,

This is Shane and Beth coming at you from Port Huron MI, WOOT WOOT!
Anywho, we just recently bought a betta fish and were not sure what kind it is. We bought it from Meijers and there was no classificiation as to what breed it is. Were not too sure if we want to breed it or not but we think it would help if we were to know what the breed is. We have lots of pics and some of them are bad because we forgot to angle it so there are no blures. Any mistakes you see are human error, no fault rests with the camera!

nice coloration. For fun you should see how large his fins fan out when you put a mirror in front of him.

Greetings and welcome to Fish Forum!

The species of fish you have is a betta splendens commonly known as a betta fish. The tail type is a delta tail as far as I can tell with these pictures. He may be a halfmoon though if his tail can open up to a full 180 degree spread. He may also carry the double tail trait as a recessive gene considering his dorsal din is rather on the large side.
Any betta that you are likely to find at a LFS can interbreed with each other regardless of tail/breed type, as they are ultimately all the same species. I don't think I've ever seen a pet store carry a species other than b. splendens although I'd sure love to see another species like b. smaragdina, and they would most certainly mark such a thing if they did get them.
