I guess your right. not too often. since it is cold there. as long as the water condition is ok. according to your test kit.

actually i haven't bought a test kit yet,what do you recommend as being essential?

Ive heard some people on here mention a master test kit. those check all water quality. and probably most acurate. you might check some of the other posts. Im sure theres more ideas on kits.

The API master test kit is the one that is recommended.

For a cycled tank 5 gallons or over, 20% a week is all that needs to be done,
Takes about 3 weeks give or take to cycle a tank

Unless your over stocked then you'lll need to do more water changes,
One betta is not overstocked,

thanks for the info guys.I don't plan to have anymore fish at this stage.i think 6 gallons is a little small for more than one fish,infact i got a betta coz they can handle tanks below 10 gallons.
