There is a great chance he just doesnt like what you are feeding him! Try some Bloodworms.
It is not uncommon to have a picky fish! Just wait and see what he is like before you go off if he spits his food out. I am sure he is fine.
Just try some other products.

I don't know if this mean anything, but when I got my fish home, he wouldn't touch flakes but he LOVED his pellets. A few days later, he would attack the pellets, but never eat them... it was like they randomly suddenly got too big for him and he just preffered to play with them. It's very odd. I still offer him pellets but he never eats them so I just give him flakes instead. I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you. Just keep an eye on him.
