Moving Back home for the summer...

Hey guys, I am moving back home for the summer, and was wondering how to best approach the process of getting my Betta ready for the transport. I saw another thread about the jar and stuff. Is there anything that I need to do in advance, in long of lines of getting the guy use to the jar, etc. I only have 3 and half hour drive, but just want to be careful. I assume when I get home that I will have to start the tank all over again by letting it sit for a couple of days, etc. Should I completely change the water in the tank, or during transport should I leave some of the old water in the tank? Thanks for the input!

Was your tank cycled before hand? If it was I'm assuming you have a filter for it. Take the filter cartridge of it out and bag it with some tank water in a large zip-lock baggy - you could do the same for the substrate if you had any as that may also hold bacteria, put a little water in with that stuff as you bag it. Empty out the rest of the tank, then carry those bags in the tank as you drive home, set-up the tank again with the substrate and filter.... let it sit for a few days and test it religiously to see whether or not the bacteria colony in the filter survived the ride.

If your tank wasn't cycled, then no, you don't keep any of the water. It all gets thrown out and you get new clean water when you get where you're going.
