Mason Jar Horror

I decided to go check out the local fish store today, see what they had silk plant wise. I was absolutely HORRIFIED. Bettas sitting around in dirty mason jars! A hand full of them were dead. The lady gave me a spiel about how they don't need filters or heaters or anything, they are fine in tiny bowls. Right lady, because clearly your fish are super healthy. I couldn't help myself, didn't plan on having a second tank this soon but he went spastic every time I walked by. Never thought Id have to rescue one from the fish store.... here is my nameless new boy

Aw, good for you for taking him home! That jar he's in looks absolutely filthy... I'm sure he's glad for clean water now!

He looks like a pretty butterfly delta. Any ideas for names yet?

I'm not sure on a name yet, I haven't gotten to watch him enough. I'm out buying him a home now. He's in the 2 qt bowl I use for my other guy while I'm cleaning the tank. He definitely screams "I am man hear me roar" lol

The three private petstores by me keep their bettas in horrendous conditions. One uses little teeny round vases. The other two use clear tiny clear solo cups. The cups petco and petsmart keep their fishes in have more volume.

Glad you rescued him. When I rescued a boy (who was basically missing his tail) from our petsmart I talked to a lady about the conditions they were in and she said something along the lines of "oh we take great care of them, they live fine in cups and we even change their water one a week!"

Right lady. That's why their body parts are rotting off.
