I see what you are saying but at the same time there is no way I could keep anywhere close to 80

The thing is, use a 10 gallon. A month passes... then you can cull half of them beause they have passed most of the "no return" zone. A lot of people's mistakes when starting breeding, is to cull right away. Then the fry begin to drop like flies and they are left with little to nothing to show for all their efforts.

I've had "50" or so of one spawn and I had 6 in the end, without culling. Another spawn was about "80", and 14 were to show for it. Then I've had 300 hatched, 250+ survived. THAT outcome, I wish I had culled sooner

Which reminds me - make sure to have more than one type of live foods for optimum growth and chances of survival.
