Moony isn't eating.

Housing
What size is your tank? 1.5 gallon
What temperature is your tank? 76 Either it isn't accurate or the heater isn't working because its been on 76 for the last four days. I really don't think the heater works. Saturday night it was almost up to 80 I unplugged it and the thermometer has stayed at 76 ever since.
Does your tank have a filter? Yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? Just a Whisper In Tank 3i filter currently unplugged.
Is your tank heated? Yes a 5W Cobalt Aquatics Mini-Therm Heater rated for tanks 1.2 gallons
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? TetraBetta Plus Floating Mini Pellets
How often do you feed your betta fish? 1-2 pellets in the morning and evening. I haven't seen him eat any. I did see him mouth one and spit it out. I fasted him on Tuesday.

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Twice a week, Wednesday & Saturday
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50% Wed and 100% Sat
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Tetra SafeStart PLUS and Tetra
AquaSafe Aquarium Conditioner
Water Parameters: N/A
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters? Planning to pickup some test strips. I've never tested before.

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? N/A
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Swims more when the heater's out. He flares at his reflection in the tank wall.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? No symptoms he just won't eat.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No
Does your fish have any history of being ill? I just bought him Saturday 7/27/13
How old is your fish (approximately)? Unknown but the sales associate told told me they had just gotten that shipment of bettas in.

I know he's probably stressed from being in a new place and having had a water change this morning. My previous betta wouldn't eat pellets either just flakes. I specifically asked at the store this time what he's used to eating and was told pellets. I feel like I'm being paranoid and stressed and that a good way to stress him out too. But I'm already attached to the little guy.

I suggest getting a new thermometer first, see if that is the "heat issue". If the heater is out of wack, bringing it really high... Fin an adjustable one. I hate the preset ones for that reason...

Don't get test strips. They can be very inaccurate, due to many different thing such as heat, cold, humidity, water damage, chemical damage, age, light, dark etc. API makes individual testing kits for individual issues, and a master kit which is great to get, even for the higher price.

I would not worry right now, since he is otherwise acting just fine. A temperature of 76 is fine, though I always found 78-80 being a great range. Try not to let it exceed 85, because it becomes to be in the "danger zone", especially during summer where I've seen tanks rise to 97 degrees!!!

I have had fish eat right away... Or not until 3 weeks later!!
