Missing Scales? (photos inside)

This evening I noticed my male has 2 places on him that I THINK are where a scale is missing. The spots weren't there around lunch time today. Normal appetite (huge) and normal activity levels. He's very spunky. He's in a divided 10 gallon with a filter and a heater that keeps the water around 80F. Regular water changes, etc.

He doesn't have any tank mates but I'm sure it is possible he scratched himself.

If this is the case, any suggestions on healing?
If you don't think this is the case, please fill me in!!

Are there any plastic plants or decorations that have sharp edges in the tank with him?

there are plastic plants and his barrel could probably cause damage if he really tried but these are all items he's had in his tank for about 5 months. nothing new or out of the ordinary. the plastic plants are very "flow-y" and soft if that makes any sense.

i'm assuming he was darting around the tank and caught himself on something...


either way, i was just curious as to whether or not that's what it looked like to you guys.

His scales look healthy to me. Like you said, he could have just scratched himself on something. I think he'll be fine. Just keep an eye on him. And keep his water clean to prevent infection.
