My new fish will eat the flakes broken down, but when I just cleaned out his tank I think every worm or shrimp was still there. I don't know if he is having trouble finding them or just unfamilar with them being food. After a week he still does not come to the opening to get food like my other betta. Is active and moving - does not appear to be sick. Would one of those food rings help? My other fish just waits for me in the morning and evening and (and any other time during the day he can catch my eye). At first was leary of the the bubbles but seems ok with them now. Is a 2.5 tank so not really a large filter just the gravel filter thing.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sometimes it takes new fish awhile to adjust to its new home so I wouldn't be too worried if he's otherwise healthy and active. They can also be picky eaters and just not like what you are feeding them. You could try a feeding ring and see if that makes a difference.

My fish don't eat shrimp either.....I have 6 Betta's and none of them will eat shrimp. I wouldn't worry too much right now...give him another couple of weeks to settle in...
In a 2.5g tank I don't think you really need a filter as you should be doing water changes pretty frequently. I have a few 2.5g and I change them every second day and they don't all have filters... You could always try a Tetra 3i which is a good filter/air system and is mega small.
