Question quarentine tank

I would like to know what if any meds people use in their quarantine tank when they first get a betta from Thailand or pet store.

You don't want to use any medications/antibiotics unless your fish is actually presenting with symptoms of disease/external parasites. Clean, IAL tinted water is fine for new arrivals.

With that said, some people do like to treat their fish in quarantine with internal parasite medication.

I don't treat them unless I see a problem. There are lots of people who do treat "just in case".

when you buy from say Thailand- you dont know say if they have parasites, etc.
I would feel like putting it in a QT with some anti-parasitic med or anti-fungal, etc....

I treat all new fish for both internal and external parasites while they are in quarantine. That is my standard operating procedure. Your eyes can only see so much, and not every case of parasites is a sick fish. Otherwise healthy animals can carry parasites just the same. Too, I do this to protect the fish I already have....

If the fish will be by itself then that's not really necessary.

First they get a heat treatment - 2 weeks at 88 degrees. That will ensure that the fish is not carrying ich. After that I dose with prazipro.

I know I see things differently than most, but there are several hundred dollars worth of fish in my 125..... I am not super excited about adding new fish to my tank. I look for reasons NOT to put it in the tank, because my main concern is protecting my investment. I quarantine for at least a month; sometimes a fish will stay in quarantine for 2-3 months before I add it to the tank. There are few things in the hobby that I am cautious about, but quarantining sits #1 on my list.

oh- mine go into a tub without heater( in Portugal it is quite hot here) and I use Flagellol for a week or 2 (although they should only be in it for 3 days) then the last week I will place them in clean water.
