Fluval View tank?

We just got the Fluval View tank today and we have a baby betta. We've had Stella for two weeks and s/he seems to be thriving!

We just placed her in the View today and I'm too scared to turn on the filter, but would like to use the light. Is there any way to turn off the filter but still use the light?

I found the thread on using filter sponges to cut the currents but I would like to just turn the whole thing off until she's bigger.

Also, if you do have this tank, what heater are you using in the back compartment?

Thanks!

I say if the fish is not a tail biter keep the filter on. I have a fluval tank with in tank filter. You can turn them Down to a drip if you want.

He doesn't even have a tail yet!! haha! He's still tiny.
I don't see any way to even turn down this filter- it's all integrated.

There still should be a dial at the top to control the water. I think if the betta can handle it let them have the current. It's make them strong swimmers. I have a betta in a tank with a bit of flow and he is fine infant he plays in the current. It's not that bad. They can handle water movement. Just make sure he has an area to chill where he will not be blown away.

What do you suggest for a "chill area"? Like a cave or a log or ?

Currently his tank is "nuda" except for his teeny, tiny silk plant he brought over from his one gallon tank. He needs to do some decorating. Oh and he does have a leaf hammock that he doesn't seem to use yet.
Am open to suggestions!

New betta, I have a fluval view and the light is separate from the filter. You should be able to run them independently. You can't have the light on with the top off, however. I have a plakat in mine and he seems to like it. I decorated with a Buddha, white gravel and stones, moss balls, and fake bamboo. I'll post a pic later.

Oh, if you want live plants, I had an anubius and a java fern in mine a long time and they did fine with the lighting.
