What to look for in breeding pair, for large color variation.

hi!

I am looking to get a pair of halfmoon bettas to breed. I am not looking to show them or anything.

I would like to breed them for a few generations. So i would like to start with a pair that will result in the most color variation. I know red is really dominate and will result in mostly red offspring.

What color pattern should i get so that i will have offsprings with the most color variation?

Marbles are fun you never really know what your will get. The fish change a lot over time.

Marbles will get you the most variation and are really fun to work with.

I agree! Marbles or butterflies are the way to go.

Sorry, I have to disagree with everyone. Marbles will only fade the original color and later return it to it's original color or change it to another color. But it does not give you a variety of colors - not unless the parent's background were muti-colored.

If you want variety; a rainbow of colors, cross bettas with as many genetic codes as possible . . . for example; platinum is basically opaque x metallic . . . opaque itself is a descendant of cambodian x steel blue . . . so cross this to another muti-gene color will give you a variety of colors. If you want colorful individuals, use "fancy" type colors or koi. Crossing that to a multi-gene betta should give you a variety of fancy bettas.

Hmm. I must have misunderstood the OP's request. I thought they wanted a variety of colors on each fish, lol.
