I've tried to give my betta some friends and he seems to not like it AT ALL!!! I bought some neon tetras, and I heard that they liked to live in schools so I bought a few. I put them in his tank and then watched them for a while. I ran out to the store and my betta had bit the back fins off one of them and it appeared at somehow removed the belly/stomach area from the tetra. I also tried to let him look at a female betta through the tank for a while and he constantly puffed up at her and was violent acting. Is there ANY other fish or inhabitors that i could try out or should I cut my losses on a roommate for my lil guy?

Hello and welcome to FishForum. Personally, I would not put anything in with my betta because they are very territorial. Some can tolerate tankmates and some can't. It depends on the personality of your betta. Bettas have been known to eat neon tetras.

It just sounds like your Betta is too territorial, I would house him alone. I think he'd be much happier alone.

yeah either that or take you betta out then change the scenery then put the tetras in then the betta

some bettas love company, and some just can't stand anything, even a snail. My two girls are fine with the rather large longfinned guppies, and shimmer is good with snails and shrimp. Fred is a different story tho! lol

My girl can be housed with tetras and shrimp (and Im willing to bet anything else), my Kingdra can be housed with neons but not snails (he ate it), my Snowflake cant be housed with anything (he killed 1 1/2 tetras)
