alright so guys do you think the 50watt one with the temp adjust will be fine for my 5.5litre/1.20Gallon acrylic tank? I only need to push the temp up from 24c/76F to 27c/80F..

50watts seems to be the smallest i can get in my lil town in australia.. Also ebay australia only has 50watts as the smallest... would love a 25watt or less

You might want to consider ordering one off the internet. Drsfosterandsmith.com and marinedepot.com have 25 watt heaters. I had to order mine because I couldn't find what I wanted either.50 watts sounds like a little too much for something just a little over a gallon.

OKay...........I have a ten gallon with two females in it....This has a filter and heater it stays at a cons. 76
But then I have three 1 gallons with males in them. The temp stays at a cons. 69...And one of the males has lived for 2 years and 6 months in this climate.....The heater isnt needed......But is def!!! prefered in a larger tank...

I only have heaters for 2 of mine but my room is warm so the water temp doesn't go below 73-74.

Living in Denver it gets pretty cold here, but my fish room is about 74F in the winter, so no problem there :)
