Haha, he is a very pretty, healthy, betta. The flaring is completely normal and is said to be healthy for the betta,if not it is still fun to watch. As for food I just drop the pellet directly in front of him and make sure he notices it, if he sees it and swims away I decide they are interested yet. I try that few times a day until tthey take it and then put them on the normal schedule. My newest male picked up eating regularly after 2 days so that seems normal. If he tries to eat but spits it out try cutting down the pellet or soaking it in water first.
His flaring reminds me of the first time I saw snowflake flare, I didnt know their gills flared out so when I walked in on him with his face flared out like something off Predator, I about died.
