well he looks like he is just playing with his food. he'll come up to the top when I take the lid off and act like he wants to eat then when I put food in his tank he will get it in his mouth, the let it go, chase it down and do it again. then he just goes back to the bottom of the tank.

and with his fins, he doesn't look discolored really, just paler. he's supposed to be a dark red fish, but he's becoming what appears to be more of a greyish red all over, not just his fins. His fins look shorter and much rougher around the edges, but not like they went through a paper shredder or anything like that.

As far as eating goes, you may have to try another brand. I went through a similar problem with my newest female. I was feeding her Hikari betta bio gold, just like all my others and she would chomp on it and spit it out then go after it and chomp again and spit it out. I thought the pellets might be too big for her so I bought micro pellets. She eats those just fine but I feel like she needs a pellet made for bettas so Itoday I got her some Wardley advanced betta pellets and she ate one with no problem! The picky little brat!! lol

haha... okay. maybe he is just being picky and is tired of his old food... where did you get the Wardly food?

I got it at Petsmart. I have never had a picky eater before but Blue Bonnet has decided to be the first one. lol I waited for a few minutes to see if she would spit it out but she didn't.

okay. thank you so much. I think I will try a different brand of food with him and maybe he will eat something and gain some energy back

two out of three of my Bettas are picky eaters! Spike would probably eat anything I put in his tank

It took me going through a couple of brands before I found something Rex and Scarlett would eat. They actually like the Bio-Gold pellets. So, I guess I'll stick with those for now.

As far as the fins, it does sound like fin rot. Keep up with the water changes, you can use aquarium salt, and if you feel like you need to you could always get BettaFix to treat him.

I guess I never thought of a fish as being a picky eater, but I get tired of eating the same thing day after day so it makes sense.

I will change his water this afternoon and look into some of the BettaFix just so I know I'm doing everything I can.
