What is this?

So, I check out Gregory with a flashlight on a regular basis for things like ich, velvet, fin rot... anything I can think of, after the disaster with Fiyero. I've certainly learned from that.

He had a gold spot on his left gill since I got him. I don't think its velvet, because I've read that velvet presents in a gold 'dust'. This looks like a flake, and has gotten very shiny lately.

I've tried for about an hour to get a picture of this gold flake, but to no avail. He is terrified of the camera, and refuses to sit still for even a moment.

I'm a little bit curious as to what it could be, and, although I'm sure its nothing to worry about, I would really like to know what it is. He seems to be pretty healthy, and his behavior is pretty normal, except for an unusual amount of bubblenests lately, but I'm certainly not worried about those.

Anyone have an idea what it is?

If he is making his bubble nest, he must be feeling pretty good.
Do you think it could just be his color?

I'm not sure. He's begun to turn a lovely lavender color. Not at all what I was expecting when I bought a red fish! The only part that concerns me is the fact that it shines like a piece of metal.

Maybe you betta is turning into gold, if so you must breed him and sell him, haha.

Haha, its the equivalent of the goose laying the golden egg!

I'm going to keep trying to get a photo of it. I almost got the perfect shot today when I tried to bribe him with food, but he nipped at my finger at the last minute when I held the food too long. xD.

If it is peeling off, Probably bacterial infection
A bunb, tumor,
weird coloring, if it is a... non-adult (sorry) then it should be normal

Hmm. I think my betta has this exact thing. But i think it might be on both sides. Its way more shiny than the rest of him and it's very shiney. He's very healthy and I think it is just his coloring.
