Murky water?

I set up my 10 gallon tank yesterday and started the filter. Put some betta renewal and jungle start right in it. Today I come home from school to see it's very foggy looking =//

Did I do something wrong? Or is it the filter? I'm not sure how long the lady had the filter before giving the tank to me but I'm not sure if that affects the tank either..

Did you replace the filter media in the filter, before using it? I would suggest a new cartridge anyway, for hygienic reasons if the tank was given to you..

The stuff inside the filter... it should be changed every 4-8 weeks, maybe longer depending on the filter brand.. I would suggest doing some research on the filter type you have and getting a new cartridge for it, the manufacturer/model is probably labeled on it somewhere.

the no fish thing is kinda strange... its gotta be the media. I set up my 10 gal tank with just Desmond in it, then the next day it was murky too, but 2 days later it was clear again. Ima test for ammonia 2marrow. I testes a day ago and it was still 0. I donno about your fishless tank, but i suggest getting a test kit at petsmart or your lfs

I have gotten cloudy water before introducing fish. I think its becasue all the dust in the gravel gets thrown up when you fill the tank (if you don't rinse it well enough. It should settle out in a few days.
