Crowntail Question ..

Hi everyone, I'm new to Bettas and I was reading through this forum and I really like everything I see! Awesome information everywhere, so I decided to post a question I had been wondering about for a while!

I went into a fish store the other day and I looked for a Crowntailed Betta (loved how they look on Google images). When I asked the fish store owner, he said he didn't supply them because Crowntail Bettas were man made, fin-wise.

I don't know if this was true but I searched all over the internet and there are some passages that make it seem like they are man made but others make it seem like they are their own Betta breed.

If anyone can clear this up for me, I would definitely appreciate it.

Im pretty new too but from what I gather, they arent "man-made" as much as domesticated. The domesticated versions of the betta are MUCH different from wild bettas. They are the result of much selective breeding and different habitats than wild bettas. In that sense you could look at them as "man-made" but they arent dyed or have their fins cut to that design or anything. And the pet store guy hadto have been lying or lackedknowledge because the veiltale's that Im sure they carried are just as man made as crowntails.

So basically no they are domesticated in but so is basically every other fish on the market. They arent man made in the way we think of those glo-light tetras and such. (from what I know)

My goodness, thanks so much for that! I just wanted to know because I didn't want to see a Betta get its Fins cut or anything .. that would be sad. =[

Wow, that's awesome dramaqueen ..

I really want one right now. I'm not sure where to get them, so I just have a 2 Veil tailed ones .. (those are the normal ones you see at Petco and stuff right? xD)

One is Teal-ish and the other is weird .. Like white and dark pink fins. xD

They should have them at Petco. Petsmart has them.

I would love a crown tail, I think theyre gorgeous. I don't think I can live with just one betta now. I'm gonna be like the crazy cat lady when I'm older, but with bettas. lol =D

Haha Vikki! I know what ya mean .. I have 2 right now but my parents said they are only gonna let me have 3 max. =[
