I also think that dividing the 10g is doable but I'd QT the new betta in the 1g just to be sure you're not introducing any illness to your current bettas. After trial and error I now QT new fish for four weeks. In my mind it's better to be safe than sorry.

I have one in a one gallon, ( i just got him so hes VERY small, so the gallon is the perfect size for him :)
