Talking just got a betta!

ive never owned a betta! this is my first one..my cat just died on sunday and ive been wanting a betta fish because my mom use to have one so my boyfriend surprised me with one today!

i really dont know much about how to care for them and what not but ive been reading the info on here as well as other websites!

i just dont know what to name him :( its a male and he's red.

any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to FishForum. How about Flame, Ember, Red or Rufus, which means red. Thats all I can think of.

those are good! for some reason i have "ren" in mind..i think its jus cuz its in the lyrics i have stuck in my head bahaha but idk hes a dark dark red almost maroon

what happens if i dont keep a light on at night for him? can it kill him?

and can i put a live plant?

No, not leaving a light on at night won't kill him. Fish need the day/night cycle just like we do.If your tank/bowl is really small then there wouldn't be a whole lot of room.

Scarlett is a pretty name for a red female, if it is one... you can tell by the tails... you might already know that by now.

thanks for the suggestions!

but hes a boy and i really dont kno what type of better he is..like i said this is my first betta everrr and ive looked at some pics and he really doesnt look like any so idk lol

idk if its just cuz hes in a new environment but i dont think he likes his food! he came with food and its these lil flakes but when he eats them he spits them back out sometimes. is it cuz the pieces are too big?

when my mom had one i remember her feeding it pellets so idk are those better to give them?
