tank mates

So i got Philip a 2 gallon tank today and i want to get him a tank mate. I asked the person at petco about it and she said that males cant have tank mates cause they're too aggressive....is that true?

And if its not, would either an albino cichlid or a pearl scale goldfish be an ok tankmate? Or what type of fish would be a good tank mate??

Usually ottos are pretty good tankmates. With bettas, you shouldnt get another type of fish that resembles their type, you know, with flowing fins that may resemble another male. Also, tetras could be fine, as long as their small enough to be eaten, or too large to pose a threat to the betta.

No goldfish. They need a different temp of water since Betta are tropical.
Honestly though, with that size tank I don't think you should put anything else in with me.

yah i think im going to just get another betta. I already have another 2 gallon tank set up and ready. I tried a silver molly, but Philip was not impressed....

IMO bettas do best living alone. It depends on their personality whether or not they'll tolerate tankmates.

DO NOT put any type of cichlid in with your betta!!.......First the tank is too small for any kind of cichlid by himself, much less with any other fish in it...............Cichlids are generally an aggressive fish who will only do well with other compatible cichlids...........Rams, apistos generally arent that aggressive, but still wouldnt work with a betta in your tank
