Cover your tank. Poseiden, my Betta, just died because I didn't.

No one ever told me to keep the top of my tank covered, but I woke up this morning to find an empty half-gallon tank. My fish was gone.
I couldn't even find him at first. I went through a whole day wondering. My family helped me look this evening, and my mom finally found him, on my desk, among my papers. It was really horrible, and I started to cry.
I knew Poseiden was strong. Even strong enough to jump out of his half-gallon tank. But I never thought he would, and I am so sad that he did. So please, put some sort of netting over the top of your tanks. I would like to think my fishboy did not die in vain.
Sincerely yours,
Poseiden's former caregiver.

Ya betta fish do jump. Another suggestion, which i do, is leave a couple inches between the top of the water and the top or your tank so that if he does jump he cant jump high enough to get out of the tank, plus this way you don't need to put anything on top of your tank

I have covers on mine too, but one has a good size filter access hole and the other has two feeding hole. So Im sure mine could jump if they tried hard enough, luckily they havent tried it yet. Sorry to hear about your Poseidon, sounds like you really loved him.

Betta are good jumpers. I would always suggest putting something on the top of tanks just to be on the safe side. I'm sorry you lost your little guy. :(

Aww im so sorry! I guess thats a lesson for next time you get another betta! Again im very sorry. I know how it is to lose a betta fish that you loved. (my nemo suffered a horrible death) He was in a .5 gallon up on my high up shelf, and my cat (evil kitty) wanted a snack... so she knocked over his tank, and bit him! (phew! at least i wasnt home when it happend.) So my cat got punished... dundundunnnn
Now i have a big tank so that she cant even go near it... or else i get all up in her faaaaace. (i have a picture of the evil kitty in my albums)

I am sorry about your loss...well, that makes me worry. My tank is basically covered, but it has two medium sized holes for feeding. I hope it doesnt try anything.....
