Strange behavior

My betta fish, Gibs, has been preforming the strangest behavior! Whenever I shut my lights off before bed, before I get around to shutting off his hood light. He will puff all up. And I'm not talking your standard "oh yay, I'm getting ready to be fed" kind of puffy, I'm talking fins fully stretched, and gills puffed out a la dinosaur in Jurassic park. He is in full on fight mode. But, it's only when the lights are off in the main room but his hood light is still on. That is th ONLY time he EVER does it. Any ideas?

He may be seeing his reflection in the glass.

Really? Hmmm. That's funny. With his personality, he would be the type to try to fight himself! Lol. But only in the dark? Or is it the reflection from the hood light is more pronounced in the dark?

With the lights on in the room and in the tank, he may not be able to see his reflection until the room light is turned off.

Maybe he's scared of the dark. LOL

I'm guessing personality since each betta does something weird that's his or her own little behavior.
