Switching Filters

Hey guys!
I have a 10 gallon divided 3 ways with an under gravel filter. I'm interested in switching to a different type of filter. Is there anything I have to do so I don't interrupt the cycle? And do you have any recommendation for filters that would do well in a divided tank? And for the new filter how do I keep the cycle uninterrupted if I have to change the filter media every once in a while?

Herein lies the problem with under-gravel filters, there is no EZ way to service them

Look in to reverse flow under-gravel filter set-ups could be a good choice for your divide aquarium

Operate your new filter in your established tank for a couple of weeks. This will allow some nitrifying bacteria to colonize it.

When you remove your UGF, don't clean your tank walls, decor or substrate. Just a good rinse.

Afterwards, test water frequently. Your cycle will not break.

Sponge filters work fine in any tank. The filter itself is cheap, so you can run more than one small one off a single airpump. That's a good way to do a divided tank.

Add new filter and run it along with old one for a few weeks. Remove old one.
