Bettas and ADFs

I've been all over this particular forum to get info on this pairing, and I really like it. However, I haven't been able to find the answer to a question I have yet, so sorry if this is actually buried in the depths somewhere.

My 10 gal. is currently empty, basically just letting the filter run and getting the water cycled with fish food at the moment. When the tank is ready for inhabitants, is it best to get the betta first to see how his temperament is and then introduce the ADFs? Or get them all at once? Or frogs first?

This thread explains everything.
Good luck! ADFs are adorable!
And in some scenarios, its the ADFs that attack the bettas (by accident) so I'd recommend against having a betta in the 10 gal.
You can do 2-3 ADFs comfortably in a 10 gal, 4 if you realllly want.
I'd recommend ADFs, they're honestly so cute.

Make sure to plant your tank, or put lots of silk plants near the top since ADFs love resting on them for quick and easy access to air. Also, lots of caves and hiding places so they feel secure.

So what I'm gathering from your response is that it's probably better to have a single-species tank? If that's the case, my heart is really set on a betta. More room for him to swim around in, I suppose. Would getting a female betta be a better situation for living with ADFs?

Lots and lots of people keep ADFs with bettas without incident, myself included. A 10 gallon is a great tank for them both.

frog(s) first.

You want the frogs to be able to figure out territories and where to hide before you introduce your betta. Keep in mind though, your betta (or your frogs) may not be compatible with each other. Each animal is an individual, and there's no way of knowing if it will work with your particular animals until you try. And make sure you have a backup plan of Just In Case!

My bettas were fine with ADFs before, but one day, BAM tears in betta's fins.

Before you introduce the betta to the tank, it's a good idea to float the frogs in a container inside a smaller tank that the betta's in.
Look for signs of aggression (CONSTANT flaring, headbutting, trying to attack, bodyslamming)
If so, they are not compatible and its best to leave the frogs alone in the 10G.
But honestly, in a 10G, you should be fine with a betta and 2 ADFs, lots of space for each other.

Good luck
