Can't Learn Enough!

Hi, I'm Becca, new betta owner here. I used to have a large 20g years ago, with no bettas. All my goldfish eventually cannibalized eachother. This traumatized me into buying anymore fish. About 4 months ago though, as a college student, I wanted a little friend to take to me to school, so I got a betta.... and now I have two. They're addicting little friends because they all have their own personality. I also have a soft spot in wanting to save them from a horrible fate at Walmart and Petco.

Hi Becca! I'm Sailor and yes betta fish are addictive! I started out with one for my daughter (shes 2) because she loves fish and she talks to him at night so avoid going to sleep. But I now have 4.

I couldn't agree with you more than trying to save them from petco and wamart! I see them all the time when I shop and I just want to buy them all! Alas I can't get anymore because my husband thinks that I am crazy but I tell him at least I didn't bring home another dog (we have two schnauzers)

Thank you for replying Sailor. You have 4?! I only wish, but any more than two would be a hassle for me to bring 7hours to school every semester.

I too used to have a schnauzer, old guy died at the age of 17.

Our schnauzers are so funny. One of them likes to watch the Phin (he is a crown til and he lives on my night stand) so the dog will watch the fish and then Phin takes notice and charges the dog withhis fins and gills flared out and they have a stairing contest until the fish gets board

Welcome to the forum!

Bettas are very addictive & I also have two that go with me back and forth to college (though only one-Merlin-has done this so far, but Dragoon will be coming along this next time).

Both my bettas flare at my Labrador when she comes around sniffing.

Also, 1313, how long do you travel to school? I want my fish to be safe on the 7 hour drive.

I have a about a 2 hour drive. I usually put them in their one gallon Critter Carriers, about half full of water, supported against the back of my car seats with bags propped on their other sides to keep them from tipping.
