gel tek question

most of you know i've been treating my blues clues for popeye.... well maracyn didn't do anything for it... i stopped by a local fish store and they carried the gel tek line of meds... i bought ampicillin.... i know i have to fast my fish for a whole day before giving the gel tek brand of ampicillin....

is it safe to continue without doing a full cleaning of my tank from maracyn? i dont want to stress my fish out to much :(

I'm a big fan of the gel-tek antibiotics. They have lots of muscle ;)

How big is the tank?
I would do a 50% water change and then add 5 drops of ampicillin to the tank. I only do 1 treatment per day (but I've had VERY FEW bacterial infections).

it's a 10 gallon divided... my other fish has finrot... hooray for treating 2 in the same tank LOL...

the bottle says to feed 5 drops per fish twice a day for 4 days?

Most of my treatments are in jars so you can use the reccomended dose.

This medication will clear up both diseases. 4 days is good but do a water change daily to get rid of more bacteria and so it's not overdosed.

Just follow the directions and see what happens :)

It would be smart. Overmedicating is NOT good. The Ampicillin (like I said) will clear both diseases, the Maracyn won't do much.

A 100% water change will get rid of more bacteria and help the treatment.

Hmm, I may want to try this Ampicillin if my fish's fin rot does not clear in the next week or so (I'm medicating him so I don't want him to OD or anything). I read somewhere that this medication is a gel and you put it in the tank as food. Is that true or not?

Luchi I havent started the gel tek brand treatment yet... but yes you fast your fish for a full day before beginning... apparently you put 5 drops in per fish and it forms lil granules and they eat it...

i'll let ya know how day number 1 goes tomorrow :)

Sounds Good! Hopefully it works great for you. I had read that sometimes the fish don't want to eat the medicine which is not a good thing. Good luck in healing your little one!!!!
