Unhappy Should I do a 100% change?

I haven't been on in a few weeks because I have been on vacation in Canada.

While I was gone I left my bettas in the care of my friend who was also watching my several other small pets. She called me a few days into the trip to tell me on of my fish had past away and when I returned the remaining two were in terrible shape. The water is brown, cloudy, and smells. I did a 30% change this morning, but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Should I do a complete clean out or would that shock my already ill fish?

Yes! Do a full tank change. Scrub it down with hot water, rinse all decorations, then put conditioned water in.

I left instructions to to a 25% change twice a week and even left the water conditioned and measured out. She told me she changed it, and the water's gone. I really don't know how this happened. My geckos and rabbits aren't doing to well either. I feel bad, but the friend I usually have watch them went with me so I had to find someone new. :(

I hope it wasn't a case of "lets not and say we did. " This is kind of scaring me. I'm on vacation and worry to death about my fish.My neighbor that is watching them has fish herself and has had bettas. I guess I'll find out when I get home. ::(

Sounds like they didn't follow instructions very well. I would be completely upset. I think you should do a complete cleaning and medicated as needed (depending on what could be wrong) I hope the rest of them will be okay!

i would be soooo pissed, and probably let that person know it, i would have done 100% water changes imediately and boil everything in there tanks. good luck, they will all probably bounce back if they were in good health when you left.

I have moved the fish into one gallon quarantine tanks for over night. Now I can keep a better eye on them. I have a feeling she didn't come everyday and compromised by extreme over feeding. The two survivors were in great shape before, but the one that died was recovering from fin rot.

I'm upset about the fish, but furious over my rabbits and guinea pigs. I'm so glad I boarded my dogs.

Oh I'm so sorry about your little ones. You gotta leave 'em with someone who knows about fish. Hope the other ones get well soon. : (

Okay, now I'm wondering. In about a week, I'm going home to Florida. I will have to instruct my friend how to care for my babies.
