well, it looks like my little Critter has fin rot. i'm so upset, his tail was gorgeous. it's so wierd, i woke up and his tail was half gone! the night before, it was totally fine. i looked for it in his bowl to see if he might have nipped at it, or if it got caught on one of his plants or something, but nothing was there. i had no idea that fin rot can spread so quickly! i have some bettafix and i also have aquarium salt that i put in his bowl today when i changed his water. my question is, should i do a 100% water change every day and add the aquarium salt and bettafix to the new water until i notice his tail starting to grow back? i've read so many different things for treatment that i'm so confused lol. what has worked for you guys when you were treating fin rot?

I was treating my betta with some medication called "Multicura" and it didnt work, my male crown tail blue betta died. I sorry about Critter i wish him fast recovery. Test your water immidietly and try to trace what happened to Critter so in the future that doesn't happen again. Do you have any other fishes in your aquarium ? It is possible that he damaged his tail on the aquarium floor and it infected. No, i think you shund make 100 % every day i will be too shocking for fish in you aquarium. I suggest that you increase temperature to kill bacterias on his tail after all that is bacterial infection. I reeeealy hope that your Critter gets well soon.

Symptoms:

Fin edges turn white
Fins fray
Bases of fins enflamed
Entire fin may rot away


Treatment :

Correct root cause
Water change
Treat with antibiotics
Addition of aquarium salt

Prevention:

Maintain good water quality
Keep proper water parameters
Feed fresh food in small amounts

Yeah that's fin rot. I would give him a salt bath daily, change his water daily, add bettafix and salt to his bowl with the water changes.

I add a small dose of bettafix and a pinch of salt every water change even when they are healthy. I always start with holistic methods. If that does not clear it up then look to antibiotics. Medications are stressful on them and fin rot most of the time is treatable with clean water, salt, and tea tree oil (bettafix).

Put him in a 1 gallon container, and do 100% water changes everyday. Add salt too. My betta had terrible fin rot, I used no medications, other then clean water and salt.

so far he's been a little trooper through his water changes. it's only day 2 though, so i'm hoping he'll be ok through the rest of them. thanks for all the help everyone :)
