Question New to Betta fish

I bought a Betta fish, recently. His name is Boots...named for the monkey in Dora. He's beautiful pink, blue, and red tipped fins (boots lol). He's my first ever fish! I bought him for my 20 month old, as an early lesson of "Feed your animal, take care of your animal". She adores him.

I am worried b/c he just sits at the bottom of his bowl. It's one gallon (we have plans to move him to a much bigger one soon), I put some aquarium gravel in the bottom, and a small plastic aquarium plant...also treated his water with conditioner, and fed him some pellets. My main concern is he was moving around all day looking really pretty...Now he just sitting there.
Do they end to be lazy and have periods of rest? I read that their full nights sleep is about 8 seconds long. Havng zero experience in fish, especially one this exotic...I turn to you :)

Thank you much!!

Jessi (owner of baby bearded dragon, Cuban brown anole, and a Betta fish named Boots)

Have you checked the temp of his water????

Bettas like temps of 75-80 degrees. Once you get a bigger home for him, get him a heater. For now, keep him in the warmest room in the house.

Your Betta sounds beautiful! And welcome to the FishForum. If you have ANY questions, please ask. Everyone here is very helpful.

I agree with doggyhog. He may be cold. A bigger tank and heater may perk him up. Bettas do like to rest on the bottom occaisionally. If they do it for long periods of time then something may be wrong. Welcome to FishForum.
