Smile Best Filter for Bettas

I have owned many bettas in my life time, but sadly they were all kept in very small bowels with no filter or heater. This was due to my own ignorance. I have recently purchased a new Betta and have him in a 5 gallon tank with a heater and I am currently looking for a filter that doesnt create to much of a current. Any suggestions?

A sponge filter is probably what you are after. The flow is extremely adjustable through the use of a plastic control valve and they are extremely gentle on fins.

+1 the sponge filter. :) I had all HOB's, but I switched over to the sponges, and my guys are much happier, my life is easier (less to fuss with!), and I like not having to deal with carbon cartridges that are debatable about efficacy and some people believe detrimental.

Sponges all the way, lol! :)

Any generic sponge filter will suffice. I have all different brands in my tanks and they perform the same.

Then all you need is an air pump, some airline tubing and a control valve and you are good to go.

You will find that the level of noise produced by the air pump will vary by brand. Some of mine are quite noisy, so if it is in your bedroom or something you may want to do some googling about quieter brands.

Thanks! Oh, and any idea what kind of betta i have. The Local PS just had it labeled as a regular betta, but it looks a lot different to me!

I am no expert, but possibly some sort of salamander (there seems to be different shades that come under this banner) butterfly. The tail type looks to be either super delta or HM but I can't tell without a full flare.

Whatever he is, he is a nice looking fish.

I have been trying to get a good pic of him, but he is still very nervous anytime I get to close to the tank
