Has anyone heard of Green-X? Use it? Thoughts?

Someone suggested it instead of an algae eater....

Truth be told unless you have an algae problem don't add anything to the tank. If you aren't showing signs of algae you can simply buy a snail(which would do well in a tank that size) if you are really worried about it. You don't want to mess with the filter though, everything in there is beneficial to your tank.

Now if your tank is turning green then I would look into doing soemhting about it. Sorry I can't really comment on this product though, never used it

Not a problem. It was just given to me and I was wondering about it....

I would not use it. The additives are bad for the fish. If you have a bad algae problem take out the affected pieces and clean them in a 5% bleach solution, rinse and dry several times. Let them sit out of the tank a couple days, rinse again. Bleach is deadly to fish, so re rinse again..

Then put them back in. Or get a snail, one that does not reproduce on their own is best:)

To keep your glass clean get a mag float. they make a tiny one, it is great!

Thanks. I don't think i have a problem. I know the last time i changed the small tank-before i got the big one- everything in it was slimy and gross but not green.

I'm looking into getting a snail...

Slimy and gross is normal.

Snails are great, but make sure to pick a breed that does not reproduce on it's own, or you can wake up and hundreds of snails one morning. Those kind are great in a loach or puffer tank though, where the preferred food is baby snail.

You will also want to supplement the snails diet with algae wafers and\or blanched zucchini form time to time or they starve.

Thank you for all the help. I don't need lots of snails Haha It'll be a few days before I get one anyways so I will research in the meantime.
