Yeah, stress coat really calms the fish down. I use it at work when we sell fish and have to put them in the fishy bags. I never had a problem with it leaving a film on top of the water.

NovAqua claims it buffers fresh water away from extreme fluctuations in pH. I was curious about that.

I didnt know Novaqua did that till I did some research. I lost 3 fish within 2 weeks, two were already sick but ultimately ph shock killed them in the end. So I am gonna say no on the buffering thing.

I use Stress Coat :P

The guy at the aquarium store tried to sell me Prime, but because I've been using Stress Coat the entire time I was afraid to switch.

I understand you use less conditioner with Prime, but what's the difference between Prime and Stress Coat? Since he didn't really explain...

I don't really know too much about it but I know that Prime neutralizes ammonia and Stresscoat has aloe vera in it.

I just did a little research on both products from their own websites and i dont see any benefit from one to the other, as far as helping the fish.....They both remove chlorine, chloromine and heavy metals....Their intended use........The API product claims it replace the slime coat synthetically, which to me just doesnt seem natural for the fish.....Im a firm believer the least amount of chemicals in the water, the better off the fish will be in the long run.........Now lets look at the cost of each product (All prices are from Foster and Smith)

Prime.........................$3.89 for 3.4oz ..........the bottle treats 1000 gallons
API Stress Coat............$5.39 for 16oz............the bottle treats 960 gallons

To me its a no brainer...............Why pay more for something that does exactly the same thing and have to add almost 5 times as much chemicals to your water and pay more for doing it?..............Dont get me wrong, i think both are good products, but the benefits of having less chemicals in the water gets my vote.....................

You could say im partial because i have been using Prime for years, but i still think its better for the fish in the end..
