Since CT's can be bought in most pet stores/walmarts I'd say "less desirable".
There are people who breed them, but far less who breed them with quality(HM spread, evenly spaced rays, proper web reduction).

I believe they have a class to be shown in, so obviously people /do/ breed them.

I personally don't/haven't because they're fins have a tendency to curl here/water is too hard.

Years ago I thought crown tails were so cool. I had a few. I am over them now. Now I am over them. There are still some that's look awesome with the right color combo.

They are my favorite now, but I feel like a fool for buying them not knowing that the are so fragile..I want strong fish! I might start over and get some HMs instead...

I'm pretty sure my water would basically murder any CTs fins lol. They are the most sensitive to water hardness and quality out of all the tail types, especially when they are growing and developing.
I don't have the proper water source for them either ;/
What is your favorite type to breed? and What type would be good for a new breeder to start with>? ...I know it'll take years to perfect

I love CTs. Really, really wanted HM but knowing they struggle with their fins weight, I don't want them anymore. Love HMPKs though. We're doing our 2nd spawn of CTs tomorrow, fingers xed. I'm from Australia so is different here.

I love CTs too and my guy is a CT and I do not have hard water so his fins are not curled at all. I also agree about the weight of the fins on the HM and that is why I would never get one as well. I would hope here that the HMPKs would be the next big hit Betta type here in the U.S. they are really awesome since their fins do not weight them down, love them Best of luck in your spawn ! I am not a breeder though just owned by my guy Perseus..lol

I personally blame this thread on my recent purchase on a whim-I not only bought a CROWNTAIL...I bought distilled water too. ONE of you is going to adopt this orange butterfly CT fish as soon as the novelty wears off

No distilled water for bettas. Use spring or RO instead... Distilled doesn't have any of the minerals they need.

Awesome looking ct though.

He's getting 50/50 tap/distilled. My water has plennnnnty of minerals. Which is why I shouldn't get a CT, lmbo.
