The only true thing I know about Mollies, even Guppies, is that they like to school. You need more than one. Three is optimal. Being that male Betta are solitary most of the time, he won't school with them. Four, three mollies and one betta would probably be my limit for a 5 gallon.

And, that's all really dependent on if your male gets along with them. Some do.. some don't.

A 5g tank is too small for any mollies. Mollies get to be quite big and need a large tank.

+1 for matt! care sheets for mollies say they need different parameters than bettas, mollies prefer hard basic water and benefit from sea salt.

I think unless you have a 10 gallon, its probably best not to have other fish in the tank. maybe look into an apple snail?

Snails are lots of fun and surprisingly fun to watch. A true apple snail would grow too big (some get softball sized O.o), but you could do a mystery snail (I think) a nerite or two, a group of Malaysian trumpet snails, a group if ramshorns, a group of pond snails, or even a rabbit snail.

I talked to my dad. My mom used to have apple snails. He said all they do is have lots and lots and lots of eggs. He said he never wants to experience another snail ever again.
