Divided 10 gallon...

If I have two female bettas in a divided 10 gallon tank. Can I have one on each side with 3-5 pygmy cories? Aqadvisor says in a 10 by 10 by 12 (10 gallon in half) keeping the one female with 4 pygmy cories is 179% stocked but if I put the true dimensions of the tank (20 by 12 by 24) It says I can keep two female bettas and 10 pygmy cories at 100% stocked. So o you think its okay to put 3-5 pygmy cories with a female betta in the 10 gallon divided in half?

I would personally say no, unless both sides have different filtration. Also because 10 in a 10g is usually considered overstocking on it's own, and now it's really only giving them 5g of space. I'm no expert, and I'm sure someone who is will come along, but that's just my opinion :) Some shrimp would work, though, and they're pretty cool little guys!

Wait, I'm very confused by the tank dimensions. Is this a 10 gallon tank in total or are you splitting a 20 gallon to make two 10 gallon spots?

And as for the pygmies, I wouldn't do that because they are very active fish and only having 10 or 5 gallons each side will be bad for them. Pygmies and Dainties both need a minimum of 20 gallons for a group if not longer since they really like to swim a lot. So with a split 10 gallon, I really don't think you should have more fish in there. You can try some shrimp but the girls might eat them so just be warned with that is all

aqadvisor is a great site but further research is almost always required since they just calculate bio-loads and all, not always compatibility or tank requirements. So you're doing well with asking the forum ^_^

Okay, thank you, then I won't add anything at the bottom. Oh and lilnaugrim it seems like my mom is letting me have her friends 30 gallon breeder tank so I'll just have a couple panda or dainty cories in there. (:

I'll also see if I can find a friend who want one of the bettas so I can beg my mom's friend for his 10 and his 30 (10 comes with filter and heater) and give the new 10 to my friend and set it up for her so the other female has 10 gallons of space. (:

Sounds good tara!! I hope you can get both of them ^_^ that'd be great! Make sure you only get one kind of cory though since the different ones don't shoal together and they need to be with their own for social reasons and health reasons so just all of one kind ^_^

Yes. I hope theyll let me have both lol. And for the 30 gallon tank i was thinking about 12 platys and 8 dainty cories. Wait dainty cories swim in the middle of the tank occasionally right? Or is that just the pygmy cories?
