I went and finally decided to get one of these things this weekend. I cut it to fit and put it on....only to have to take it off. Because it is shiny, he began flaring NONSTOP. So I was wondering if anybody else has these and if they have the same problem? Is there something any of you used to put on it so it wasn't so shiny? I could even see his reflection from the front of the tank - so I know that is why he was flaring like he was. I was afraid leaving it on would stress him out since he was flaring nonstop.

Oh and so we did take it off. Before we took it off he refused to come to the front of the tank, and would not stop blowing bubbles. As soon as it was off he was back up at the front and swimming all around.

I made a back round for one of my tanks a while ago, he HATED it!!! He eventually stopped flaring all the time, but would flare very often still. I eventually took it off.

Mine was shiny. There has to be something I could put on it so it isn't so shiny...lol.

I just got 3 pieces of paper, (for my 10 gal.) and drew plants on them. I really didn't look good.... Haha.

Maybe you could get some solid colored paper from a craft store or some cool paper at a craft store?

Lol, I am the worst drawer on the face of the planet! Not to mention I am not at all creative! I thought neejar had a backdrop on his tank....I wonder how he got his to work without his fish flaring at it...

i've purchased backdrops for 2 of my tanks... i haven't had any problems with it except the girl at teh store cut them to short.. i did however go to my local craftstore and purchased all kinds of scrapbook paper... alot of decorative neat pages.... they aren't shiny and in my opnion add a nicer backdrop! :)

I just use black for tank backgrounds, it makes everything in front of it really stand out.

The fish flare at their reflections from time to time, but have places to go hide from it as well.

taping off a tank prior to filling it up and using a few light coats of black or blue spray paint works great.

Well we tried just something plain last night up on the tank (not shiny) and he reacted the same way. I wish there was some sort of not completely opaque cling on or something.

I'm afraid to use spray paint on the tank... because that is sort of permanent isn't it? I guess for now I just won't use anything on the tank back lol.

spray paint can be removed with a razor blade :)
