I think that's an opinion type of thing.
In all honesty, I don't think many people "rescue" bettas from my local Walmart (I work there, so I see a lot of what goes on). Mostly people who purchase them here are little kids and people who are just kind of going OOOH FISHIE! Right now, at our Walmart at least, the remaining bettas are "leftover" from the big shipment that came around for the beginning of the school year, so they need a little extra love and, as morbid as it sounds, probably won't last on the shelf much longer. I imagine it's the same at a lot of Walmarts around the country at the moment.
I think one rescue really isn't going to make much of a difference in terms of how many we're selling (or think we're selling), although at a really low-traffic Walmart I suppose it might!
