So, my new fish that I got two days ago isn't doing so well. Yesterday he was great, really active and seeming to enjoy his new tank. Today I got back from going on a sudden overnight trip, and things have gotten bad. He's been hanging around at the top, and I thought he was just being odd, and then I noticed he's not staying on the top because he wants to, it's because he can't go under. He sits for a few seconds, tries to submerge, and then floats back up. I know this isn't normal, so is there anything it could be, and what I can do to help, if anything?

Swim bladder disorder. It is caused by over feeding. Keep the tank warm, and lower the water level, so if he does go to the bottom, he can get to the surface for air better.

I don't think it's from overfeeding, since he hasn't eaten since I got him. Still adjusting, I'd suppose. And thanks, I'll do that.

He could have been overfed at the lps/lfs. But it does sound like a swim bladder problem.

sounds like a swim bladder issue, he may be constipated. fast him for a day or two.

I'm so sorry to hear about Eros. It's so sad to lose out little buddies. I don't think it matters whether we've only had them one day or several years we are already attached when we buy our fish buddies.
