Exclamation Errr...

So I have a 15 gallon tank that has a divider in it and is only filled with about 10 gallons. One side has a male and the other a female Betta. Yesterday I changed the water, and after i was done i failed to notice that there was a good bit of extra water in there.

Long story short, when i woke up this morning i found the male on the female side of the tank. (Jumped the divider i suppose) I couldn't find any damage done to them, maybe a few nips on the females fins, and they weren't fighting or being aggressive.

Although they were swimming around each other and the male would wrap around the female, turn her on her side/upside down and then let go of her. Then he'd touch his head to his side and fall to the bottom of the tank, sit there for a moment and then swim up and float around the plants again. And the female seems to be less active then she was before the incident.

At first i though he was dead and paniced. But I'm thinking this was them mating, but i just wanted to make sure they were ok.

If he was wrapping himself around her then they were probably mating. lol Does he have a bubblenest? If so, he probably put eggs into it.

That is the betta mating ritual. Was he squeezing any eggs out of her? Did he have a nest built? if not then they just went though the motions.

I thought so, he did last night, but it looks like part of it got destroyed by either him or her.

What do the eggs look like? small white beads perhaps?

and i dont have the necessary equipment to keep the fry, so what should i do about this? I dont want to kill baby bettas.

You would be able to see them falling from her if you saw the mating. Yes, they are tiny and white. I would dump the nest and eggs before they have a chance to develop.

So what about the female being less active and the male just kind of lays in the plants now? Are they tired or something?

Breeding takes a lot out of them. The male should be tending to the nest and picking up fallen eggs.

Nope he just lays there, while the female picks the eggs up and then puts them in the nest.
