Here's some web pages that I use to make some hard diagnoses.

http://www.oneworldinternetcafe.com/..._diseases.html
http://www.bettafishcenter.com/Betta-Diseases.shtml
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/betta...etta-fish.html

Also, how old is the betta?

Well you know petco... They don't care. All they want is money.
Just keep a close eye on him.

Well not all fish are taken good care of, also them being shipped in masses and all separated makes it hard for major pet stores to really care for all of them. Sadly, bettas are one of the most neglected fish.

Yep they are. Its strange Fishy was my first fish and longest living so far. All my others from various places havent lived long. Odd how 2 from one place can die,but a third you have from same is fine. 2 from petco died on me,but my girl from petco is fine. The males it seems have more problems. For me anyways. Only had one girl die on me. All rest males.

Petco itself rarely gets females, and when they do, they usually shelved right away. People like females cause, well, they're females, sorta rare in some places. Males in most petstores look kinda dull. But also remember the breeders that supply petco and petsmart aren't usually that good, they do it to get money from the store, not for a hobby or anything.
